After thoughtful deliberation, our judges have chosen a winning tale. Below, you’ll find the authors who have claimed 1st through 5th place in this year's short story contest.

1st Prize: A Song of Heart's by Cody Morrison

This poignant story delves into the complexities of grief, music, and the bonds that tie us to those we've lost. Through beautifully crafted prose, it explores a young man's struggle to find peace after the death of his brother, offering readers an emotionally resonant journey that is both heart-wrenching and uplifting.

 

2nd Prize: Our Puzzle Glue by Alana Lee

This heartfelt story explores the deep bond between a narrator and their beloved Uncle Robin, who played a pivotal role in holding their family together. Through the metaphor of puzzle glue, the story beautifully illustrates how love and support can keep a family connected, even as life pulls them in different directions. Readers will be moved by this tender reflection on memory, family, and the enduring connections that shape our lives.

 

3rd Prize: Dominus Miseriae by C.S. Alexander

In this chilling and atmospheric tale, a young woman uncovers a sinister family secret hidden within an ancient book. The story weaves horror and emotion together, creating a haunting narrative that will stay with readers long after they’ve finished, offering a powerful mix of suspense and psychological depth.

Honorable Mention: Normally we list just the top three stories, but it was close contest, with many good stories. So, here are two more stories that deserved to be recognized.

 

4th Prize: Niðavellir by Elisabeth Wettern

Set in a richly imagined world, "Niðavellir" draws readers into a unique landscape filled with mystery and wonder. The story is a masterclass in world-building, transporting you to a place where the environment itself feels alive. Expect to be captivated by the vivid descriptions and the sense of adventure that permeates every page.

 

5th Prize: Fortune’s Price by Kevin Martin

"Fortune’s Price" is a thought-provoking tale about the unintended consequences of a wish fulfilled. As a young man navigates the sudden changes in his life, the story examines the cost of desires and the bittersweet nature of fate, offering readers a compelling narrative with a strong moral core.
